MIF 2020 Online!
Here’s our outline programme of events. Each evening we’re sending an email including a reminder of the next day’s activities with any links you need to the videos or sessions. Whilst we’ve shown a time for the YouTube videos, they’ll be available for at least 24 hours beyond then.
We’re aware we need to keep people safe online so access to Zoom activity will be monitored. Please don’t share the links we send and ensure a responsible adult monitors any access to Zoom meetings.
YouTube: Clicking the link in the email we send should take you to the YouTube video on our channel. It’s the one with the Festival hands logo, but the videos can’t be seen by the public.
Zoom: You’ll have to have the Zoom app on your laptop or phone, which you can download when you join your first session. You can see a short video on how to join a Zoom meeting here: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-Joining-a-meeting
Alternatively, download and install the Zoom App beforehand. Go to https://zoom.us/download and from the Download Center, click on the Download button under “Zoom Client For Meetings”. Once the download is complete, proceed with installing the Zoom application onto your computer.
If you need some help with setting any of these up, contact us at info@merseafestival.org.uk and we’ll do our best to help you get connected.
Facebook: We’ve set up a private Facebook group: MIFFED 2020 and it would be great to see what you’re getting up to during the week. How’s your badge and wristband looking? (Sent separately) Are you camping in the garden – or maybe indoors? How did your biscuits turn out or what else have you been baking? Have you been arty during lockdown? Please share your pics in the private group or use hashtag #miffed2020 on social media. Note: We won’t be sending links or passwords via the group and it’s not essential to join.
Many thanks to the small team of volunteers who have put the week together – none of whom are technical wizards. Every effort is made to deliver the sessions, but they are subject to change – and technology! We’ll post updates on the website and in the Facebook group: MIFFED 2020

Every effort is made to deliver the sessions, but they are subject to change – and the technology! We’ll post updates on the website and in the Facebook group: MIFFED 2020
Aerobics (Zoom): Vicki helps us get moving at the Festival each morning and will be doing the same during our Online Festival. Join her live on Zoom. (We plan to record each session and make it available on YouTube if you can’t get up before 9.30am – or want to do it again!).
Art Sessions with Angie & Terry (YouTube and Zoom): Our Art Team legends will be showing you some arty stuff, with a follow-along session later in the week. Materials list to follow soon.
Balloon modelling by request (Zoom): Sally will be showing us some balloon modelling techniques and making things on demand via the Zoom Chat
Bingo (Zoom): You’ll need to be sent a card to print out or have on a mobile device beforehand. Details to follow.
Biscuit making and decoration (YouTube and Zoom): Early in the week Laura H & Co will be showing you how to make your own biscuits. Hopefully yours might be ready for later in the week when there’ll be a follow-along in how to decorate them. Recipes and ingredients can be found below.
Camp Concert (Zoom): Now this will be a challenge! You can either:
- Send us details of your favourite track for you to dance to for 60 seconds. We’ll play it during the Thursday evening and put the spotlight on you!
- Record a 60-send video of yourself singing along to or playing your favourite song. Then send it to us in one of the following ways by 9pm Tuesday 25th August.
- Email it to info@merseafestival.org.uk
- Send it to our email address via WeTransfer: https://wetransfer.com/
We’ll be pulling the recordings together and showing them on Thursday evening via Zoom.
Disco with DJ Bailey (Zoom) – submit song requests to the DJ through the Zoom chat function. You’ll have to provide your own disco ball and lights! Different theme each night.
The G Man’s Jukebox: One of our volunteers, Graham, has an internet radio show two days a week on Worlds Awakening Radio. From 9pm to 10pm on Wednesday 25th and 3pm to 5pm on Saturday 29th August Graham plans to feature a few great festival favourite tracks in his playlist and talk a bit about the Festival. If you’ve got a favourite track or memories, let us know. You can check out the station at http://www.worldsawakeningradio.com or at https://www.facebook.com/WorldsAwakeningRadio on Facebook or on your smart speaker by asking for it to “play worlds awakening radio from tune in.”
Laughter Yoga (Zoom): Simon will be leading us in this light-hearted exercise. No mat or lycra required – just a comfy chair and a chortle!
Let’s Get Quizzical! (YouTube): Long-time Festival goers may remember Simon’s Quiz, hosted by one of our former campers. Some of the Festival volunteers and Instructors have a few questions for us each day – just for fun. With music, outtakes, animals, a Superhero and some very young cameo appearances.
Meditation with Grace (YouTube): Grace is one of our volunteers and is currently living in Toledo, USA. Listen as she takes us through a 15-minute meditation session to start our day.
Use hashtag #miffed2020 on social media to share how you have been joining in with us at home.
Biscuit Recipe from Laura (Delia Smith) Hall
Ingredients – to make around 30 biscuits.
400g butter
400g caster sugar
800g plain flour
2 Eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
Choc chips if you wish
- Pre heat your oven to 180°C /Gas mark 6

- Knead the dough until all the ingredients are combined
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface

- Bake for around 10 minutes keeping an eye on them until a nice golden colour and then allow them to cool.
For the Royal Icing
500g icing sugar

(You can buy box royal icing which does not need egg whites or lemon juice)
- Sieve the icing sugar into a bowl and mix in egg whites slowly.
- Increase the speed of mixing until smooth and glossy.
- Add food colouring and put into piping bags or sandwich bags.
